Plastic were introduced approximately hundred years ago , and today are one of the most used and most versatile Materials. Plastic creates a lot of waste which caused a lot of pollution .It is the only problem which gives birth to many problems . More than two trillion plastic are consumed by the people of the world. In India sixty millions tonnes of waste is being generated every year . Plastic have become an integral part of our life. Seas and Oceans have become dangerously polluted with plastic and this plastic is the only reason to creates a lot of waste. Plastic waste is increasing day by day and also showing the effect on nature. Waste can cause air as well as water pollution ,rotting garbage emits out harmful chemicals and gases which gets absorbed in air and water causing a lot of pollution . The food we eat , The air we breathe and the water we drink all are polluted .It seems that there is no place on earth 🌎 that is safe to dwell in. The polluted environment has caused many disease and some even resulted to death . Segregation of waste is one of the environmental issue of the recent times in India and it is the right responsibility of every person to segregate the waste to maintain cleanliness of their locality . Waste segregation can be very helpful for the environment .Waste segregation is the process by which waste is separated into different elements . Waste segregation basically means keeping wet and dry waste separately so that dry can be recycled and wet waste can be composted . Segregation of waste is the best way to save the environment . When we mixed dry and wet waste it breaks down in the landfill and it creates nasty greenhouse gases. That’s why everyone have to be careful to don’t mix wet and dry garbage .Mixed dry waste such as glass and paper can be turned into new products. It can also been helpful in saving resources . This also saves energy to create products from raw Materials . Segregation can be easy by providing separate bins in different places . Waste segregation is included in law Also because it is easy as compared to recycle . Segregation is helpful to reduces the amount of waste needs special handling and treatment .It is also helpful to reduce waste taken to landfill and to limit the use of raw material in the production of new products. Sharing your waste in different bins as biodegradable and non biodegradable has many advantages . So now we have to understood the terms biodegradable and non – biodegradable .Waste can be segregate as, 1.Biodegradable substances. 2.Non – Biodegradable substances. . Biodegradable substances are also known as wet waste. It includes the materials which can be broken – down to non – poisonous substances in Nature in due course of time by the action of microorganisms like bacteria . Biodegradable waste decompose naturally and become harmless in Nature . Cattle dung, compost is an example of biodegradable waste. Biodegradable waste do not pollutes the environment . There are many things which are biodegradable in Nature like wool, wood , paper , jute ,cotton , grass ,fruits and vegetables etc.Biodegradable waste is economic – friendly in Nature . It includes any organic matter in waste, which can be broken- down into carbon dioxide , water, methane or simple organic molecules by microorganisms and other living things by aerobic , composting , digestion etc. Non – Biodegradable substances is also known as dry waste . Non -Biodegradable are the waste that cannot be decomposed by the biological ways is called non- biodegradable waste. Non – biodegradable things include of plastic like polystyrene , metals, aluminium cans , toxic chemicals etc. Non- biodegradable is a kind of substances which cannot be broken down by natural organisms and acts as a source of pollution which affects the environment. These are the waste that cannot be easily handled Non – Biodegradable waste are less economic – friendly in nature . They remain on earth 🌎 for thousand of years without any degradation . Hence the threat caused by them is also more critical . It dangerously affects the environment . It has become a major problem for all over the world . It is also a reason to creates a lot of diseases. Scientists have brought forward many ideas like biodegradable plastic etc. They incorporated some biodegradable material with plastic and made them easily and rapidly degradable , but this is quite an expensive procedure . Every person is not abled to follow it . In 2016 ,”the centre for science and environment ” came out with a report on solid waste management titled ” Not in my backyard : solid waste management in Indian cities” . It is clear from the report that cities that are segregating their waste have been able to effectively process and treat it . With a objective of promoting segregation , Centre for science and environment on December twelve 2019 , launched a plateform called the ‘ Forum of cities that segregate ‘ . This initiative was launched with twenty one cities and thirteen States of the country to develop a knowledge exchange plateform for participating cities on solid waste management . Many developed countries have also realised the importance of waste segregation decades ago and they are meticulously following the principle of waste segregation to have a clean and friendly environment . Waste management is essential in today’s society . The waste is increasing day by day and the generation of waste is getting doubled . Moreover the increase in waste is affecting the lives of many peoples . It has become a major threat for everyone . It is very harmful for our beautiful and attractive nature . It provides a lot of bad effects on one’s life . It is a grave situation for everyone. In order to maintain a healthy life, proper hygiene and sanitation are necessary . If we start creating awareness and take self responsibility we can clean our environment. Consequently it is only possible with proper waste management. For this we have to learn to segregate our waste on daily basis . It is quite essential to separate plastic waste from biodegradable waste . It can be very helpful for our Nature. It is necessary to separate plastic waste from natural waste. It is the responsibility of everyone . Everyone should aware about the waste segregation because segregation of waste is the only way to keep the environment safe and stay protected from many diseases. The use of plastic is one of the furious major topic. According to “World Health Organization” , every month the world needs 89 million plastic medical masks and 1.6 million protective goggles, which are made up of polypropylene and may takes five hundred years to degrade in the ocean . It is the main reason which affects seas life . According to the ” United Nation ” atleast 800 species worldwide are affected by marine debris, and as much as 80 percent of that litter is plastic . Scientists estimates that 60 percent of all seabird species have eaten pieces of plastic , and the main reason behind this is human . It is the responsibility that one’s should not throw plastic in seas.
All the above said suggestions are given in relation to India and will be effective only when we individually feel the responsibility of making environment clean . As general public , we cannot do much in policy and regulations formulation , adoption of newer technologies related to recycling and other waste management options but we can play a very important role in this process if we can adopt only few tips as mentioned above. The argument that segregation is the key for waste management was only strengthened recently with the release of ” swachh survekshan results”. Most of the cities in the country 🇮🇳🇮🇳that are ensuring segregation of waste at source have been in the list of the awardees .So now it is fully cleared that segregation at source is at the heart of the waste management solution . Waste management is only possible when waste is segregated at source . It is clear that improper waste management practices have a significant impact on the natural environment and sustainable development . So the main conclusion is this that there are two bins in every house one is for dry waste and the other is for wet waste ,and every citizen have to follow it for the better future of upcoming generation . So in the end of my essay , I wants to say that makes waste segregation a habit ,and not an obligation.
