Gone are those wonderful days where the mere sight of green trees, a clean and refreshing environment brings in the state of tranquility and peace within our hearts. The greatest creation of god, the earth has given us everything that one could wish for: food to survive ,a roof to live within. But with the passage of time , the need to develop, to enhance productivity, to make our lives better various gadgets and technology has been employed that has made the earth a different place. Our nature of endless wants and the sense to acquire more and more of everything with no regard and concern for the environment has itself brought the future of our lives as well as other innocent living organism’s life on the earth under a great threat. The accumulation of unwanted ,toxic and improperly disposed waste remains to be an alarming and lethal factor of destruction among the other reasons for the destruction of earth. The growing awareness among the people and in an attempt to undo the harms brought in the past years led to “WASTE MANAGEMENT” methods that aims in reducing the waste into primitive degradable form.
There is a way to prepare to different savouries we relish upon ,likewise, there are unique methods to dispose different waste and mere disposal of all waste together in dump is insufficient . The foremost step of waste management begins with the organization of waste into groups – biodegradable, non-biodegradable, e-waste.
BIODEGRADABLE WASTE :
Biodegradable waste are those waste that could easily be degraded into simpler forms by the microorganisms. Biodegradable waste involves our kitchen waste, animal waste that is easily degradable and enhances the fertility of the soil which in turn helps in proper nourishment and healthy growth of plants. these can we easily disposed by composting where the waste if left to degrade in compost pits .
Non- biodegradable waste are complex in nature and simple probiotic microorganisms are incapable of breaking them into simpler form. Non-biodegradable waste includes plastic bags, sanitary napkins, paints, tyres etc.The 3R’s REDUCE,REUSE,RECYCLE is an efficient method that people all over the globe undertake to dispose non-biodegradable wastes.
(1)REDUCE: Non- biodegrdable are not very friendly for our environment thus reducing the generation of non biodegradable waste brings about a tremendous impact in our ecosystem .Opting up biodegrdable alternatives for non- biodegredable products like using cotton and jute bags instead of plastic bags is a great step towards acheiving a waste-free environment .
(2)REUSE: Reusing the products more than once or using the products for other purpose than their orginal use avoids the production of fresh non-biodegradable product.
(3)RECYCLE: Recycling is the process of collection and processing of non- biodegradable into new products. This step has now gained wide popularity , all leading manufacturers over the globe have now started using recycled plastic for their use rather than generating fresh ones again .
E-waste comprises of discarded electrical and electronic wastes. E-waste is the most lethal and harmful among the wastes whose accumulation leads to the release of harmful toxic substance and gases. Extra caution should be undertaken while disposing e-waste. We can outsell our e-waste or dropping of our e-waste to certified disposers .
The need of the hour is to create awareness among people and let them know proper method of disposal of waste that are created within their household. Illiterate people should be educated in the topic of waste management and they should be aware what would happen to our environment with the continuing trend of exploitation of natural resources and accumulation of waste. “SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT” (i.e) development in present should take place without affecting the environment and comprising the future needs should be given importance . Strict measures should be brought within the governing bodies to take neccessary actions against people who violate and improperly dispose the waste .Also, the government should ensure that manufacturing units dispose their waste after the required proper treatment and avoid the discharge of waste into water bodies that will lead to the death of hydra organisms .
” BE THE CHANGE RATHER THAN WAIT TO CHANGE ” let us all together take some steps for making the earth a better place . Let the good start with you and set example for other to follow your steps. A small step that we take today is to achieve greater heights for tomorrow .It is time for us to repay the generous the earth that gave us everything which makes us what we are today.
” PROUD PEOPLE DO NOT LITTER , MAKING THE WORLD BITTER ” .
I would like to thank WECARE FELLOWSHIP for giving me an opportunity to express my view towards waste management. Kindly excuse some typos that would have occured without my knowledge . I had a great time while working on this topic and learnt few interesting facts which i was earlier unaware of. The topic that has been discussed above will surely create a great awareness among the youth generation who will encourage and follow proper disposal methods in future and work towards making the earth a better place .Thank you!
