In the title, both the terms ‘Waste’ and ‘Responsibility’ associate with ‘My’. So, at first the question that comes to our head is “who am I?” I will not give any scientific or spiritual definition here. I am just writing what I feel. I am a human being, a living object of the ecosystem. I was born in the world and in the end I will die. But as a human being, I have to do something more than to live only. In order to survive, I take many things from society, nature and the world. Beyond the need of survival I use many things for my convenience. Of all those, some are necessary and some are not. Some I keep with me and some I throw away after use. These things are called ‘waste’. This waste becomes harmful to nature, society, the ecosystem and thus the world is affected. It destroys nature gradually. As a part of these, we also go forward to destruction. So we have to do something to save ourselves and to save others. Now from this idea, the term ‘responsibility’ comes in the limelight. What are our responsibilities? As the topic is about my responsibility to my wastes, I will be talking of my duties. I am a student. I live with my parents in a small town. Being a son, I belong to my parents, my family first. I have some friends and relatives too. These people love me and I also love them. But sometimes we take more than our need from them with the excuse of relation. In the way, we waste our relations. We have a keen relationship with nature also. Oxygen helps us to breath and it comes from nature. The food we eat to live comes from nature. The dresses we wear also come from nature. We live in house. These houses are also made of the things, taken from nature. We use various types of vehicles to go a place to another place. This century is considered as the century of technologies. But these technologies are also created and developed from sources of nature. We often take food more than our need in our plates. Naturally, we can’t eat the entire food on our plates. Some foods are wasted. Now if we look at a poor family who can’t collect enough food for a square meal once in a day, we will see that their children are suffering from malnutrition and even some diseases only for not getting enough food. Sometimes they die of hunger or of malnutrition. But think of us who waste food easily. So we are responsible of these deaths in a way; are we not? In the way we also waste our humanity. Now let’s come to oxygen. All of us know that trees emit oxygen in the time of photosynthesis. But for our need, many trees are being cut every day. Yes it is sure that these needs are important to live. But we, sometimes, cut trees even when we have no need. Thus, we destroy our best friends and again ruin our relations with nature. We disturb many animals; sometimes we kill them also to get fun only. This is a waste of our qualities as a human, isn’t it? We use lights in our houses and other places. It is a matter of consumption of energy. This energy again comes from nature. But very often we consume energy more than our need. We use fuels to cook, to run vehicles and other things of technology. But again we waste the fuels. As an aftermath, the sources are decreasing day by day. Water is the source of life but we waste water also. As a result, the percentage of drinkable water is also decreasing every day. Now, as a human being I have some responsibilities to prevent these. What do I do to prevent waste or to prevent the harmful reaction of wastes? I need to ponder on this. I try to take the food of my need. I must use electricity only to serve my purpose or the need. If the daylight is enough, I will never use artificial electric lights. I take the oath to use water to drink and to use in my daily life when needed. I will not waste water any more. If I can see waste of water in my house or anywhere, I will certainly try to stop it. I use bicycles most of the times and it reduces both the waste of fuel and pollution of nature. I also tell my family members, friends and other people not to waste anything. I give the things, which I used once but do not use now, to the people who have the need of those. Sometimes I also try to reuse many wastes myself. I try not to kill trees but to plant them. I give enthusiasm to others also who plant trees. I try to give the importance to relationships with my family members, friends and others. I always keep a strong vision on if I waste the relations. Actually, I think if we can prevent the waste of time and our human qualities, we can prevent all other wastes and we can reuse the wastes also. So I try to prevent both of them for myself. In the way I try to obey my duties and responsibilities to my wastes. One thing we must also be aware of and that is the waste of energy, wealth and human resource. These are important for the progress of any nation. I should never waste my time, energy, resource, money and labour on unnecessary trivial things like getting addicted to social media, criticizing other people and the like. I must be intuitive to stop wasting. I must focus on the origin, use and the after-use phase of everything. I have started practising all these for a better myself and a better tomorrow.
