Winston Churchill once said “Where there is great power there is great responsibility, where there is less power there is less responsibility, and where there is no power there can, I think, be no responsibility”. I believe that we humans have been given the authority and power over a great responsibility; “over the world, the nature, our environment”. Such is the great weight that has been bestowed upon each one of us. Therefore, any problem or issues that arise within the area of our rightful responsibility solely rests on our shoulders and our burden to carry.
To begin with, it is observed that with every passing generation there has been much increase than decrease in harming of our mother earth, the opening of the ozone layers due to the greenhouse effect, that has been gradually increasing as well. Studies claim that, with the advancement of technology the waste and harm to the environment has significantly increased from the past decade. “It is a world wide problem and it should be taken care of as soon as possible”, they said. It is imperative that each country and state of the world should be aware and start about fixing and healing our environment again. We as a dependent human have the tendency to depend everything on our leaders and complain when they fail, whilst we on our own part do not move a finger to contribute to the society by doing something good and productive. It is the duty and responsibility of each one of us when it comes to taking care of our world, our environment, it is not just about one individual who has been given the responsibility and power over our nature.
Adding to that, I would state that if we cannot take care of our environment and contribute to saving what is dying then we have no right to complain to whatever happens to the environment, the responsibility of the damage is not only on the hands of our leaders but it is on each individual that lives and breathes. It is indeed worth mentioning and noticing that several groups and organizations such as Greenpeace, WWF, UNEP,(and many more) have held campaigns, programs and events on saving the nature, educating people to be more aware of our surroundings and to those individuals and groups who care and give their lives in saving the nature to not become complacent but to keep on working harder and striving for another greener day.
More so, each of us should know that there is no harm in picking up a wrapper or waste from an area that it does not belong to, there is no harm in planting more trees, there is no harm in choosing to walk on foot than to drive a car. There is no harm in being different and contribute to society, to nature. No matter the struggle we go through in working for our environment and society, at the end of the day we ourselves benefit from our own struggle.
I truly believe that if, just one individual sets aside their ego, shyness, anxiety and be humble enough to clean up an area, pick up a wrapper and waste it in the rightful place, soon the whole world would humble itself to do the same right act and never look back on it.
Might I digress but it is observed that, during this world wide pandemic and lockdown the people have seen and experienced very sorrowful moments, losing our loved ones, it has been a mournful year. However, on the bright side; the people has also observed the world healing, nature prospering and thriving again, it has also been recorded that cities all over the world who had never seen the clear sky due to the smog emitted from industries and factories has had a magical experience; for the first time they had experienced and observed a clear sky and starry night. NASA has also mentioned that with the sudden drop in emission of harmful gasses the nature is experiencing a healing time so is the ozone layers too gradually closing.
Therefore, is it not evident and clear enough that we are responsible for the harm of our own home?, Is it not a blessing and a reassuring experience to see the world healing and recovering from the brutal damages that we have caused? Everyone loves the good things but non of us know how to take care of the good things. It is a big responsibility but it is not an responsibility that cannot be carried or worked out, I also believe that this responsibility can only be carried out more efficiently and easily if only each one of us would realize our responsibility and unite and bring about a change.
To sum up, The world would have been a lot better if each one of us took care of it as if it were a gift, gifted by someone special. However, let us not forget that the nature, the world is actually a gift to all of us from God. The responsibility given to each one of us to take care of nature, over a big responsibility is not because God is lazy but it is because we are his creation and he knows and believes in each one of us that we have the capability and will to take on the challenge and enjoy the fruits of it.
