My Waste ,My Responsibility:
Urban India generates 62 million tonnes of waste (MSW) annually, and it has been predicted that this will reach 165 million tonnes in 2030.
As per the annual report of the Indian government’s Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, it is estimated that the total generation of solid waste is approximately 150,000 tons per day and of that, approximately 90 percent (135,000 tons per day) is collected.
This is the Time to reduce the Waste :
1. Take reusable bags to the store when shopping.
2. Reduce or eliminate the use of paper plates and cups.
3. Store leftover foods in reusable containers instead of single use plastic bags or Polystyrene foam containers.
4. Reduce or minimize use of plastic bags and Polystyrene foam.
“Refuse what you do not need; reduce what you do need; reuse what you consume; recycle what you cannot refuse, reduce, or reuse; and rot (compost) the rest.”
Reduce the plastic use:
There are around 20,000 plastics recycling industries in India with a daily capacity of 1,500 tons. The easiest way to reduce the volume of solid waste is to burn it in a process called ‘incineration’.
