Would you like to travel and explore a city with clean roads, filtered air, and green trees? Obviously yes! Nature has bestowed us many colorful varieties of life. A world without it would be a dull place to inhabit. It is a part and parcel of life as all life forms owe its existence directly or indirectly. But it is pity that we, the human beings are ignoring its presence and beneficence. The responsibility of this regard lies with us.
PROBLEM OF MISHANDLING WASTE
Rapid industrialization and growth in population has triggered the production of goods and essential products which is a necessity but more than that the whole world is facing the menace of mountains of waste on our planet. Waste management has became one of the biggest challenges that the livelihood is struggling with. Nowadays plastic products has flooded the market. Plastic is being used on large scale as it is handy and durable but it adversely affects the environment. It do not decompose at all further causing the waste to accumulate. Have you ever wondered that where does our home waste goes? The biodegradable waste is mixed with soil and a compost is prepared and the non biodegradable waste is recycled but the other wastes that includes plastic and polymers is deposited in landfills which then harms the soil fertility and growth of agriculture and also it choke the drains, further leading to imbalance in ecology. The landfills that are used to dump the waste are also limited in number. You would be in a state of distress to know that in a progressing country like, AUSTRALIA the number of landfills are running out and they have hardly any waste dumping grounds left. The waste that is scattered here and there eventually rot or generates a foul smell. The badly managed landfills are an invitation to insects and litter all around hence causing infectious diseases. On burning plastic, a lot of toxic gases are released which contribute to air pollution, acid rain and greenhouse effect too. With the above information we can understand that the plastic is much harmful to use and neither it cannot be utilized further nor it has some decomposing technique. Therefore plastic is a waste for environment and human beings too.
WASTE MANAGEMENT TIPS
We are well introduced by the waste management techniques but our careless and least bothered attitude wins over it. There are only some people in this world who care for environment which is not enough , we need to create a mass awareness to achieve the aim of proper waste management. But first start it your end as it is said ‘CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME.’ Have a check on home waste initially, it is advised to use at least two dustbins : green and blue. The green one for biodegradable waste like vegetables waste or manure. The blue one for non biodegradable like paper waste, wrappers of food items etc. I am currently living in INDORE and every morning the municipal van comes to pickup the waste but if we have not separated the waste into two dustbins, then they do not collect the waste which is I think the main reason that INDORE is the cleanest city of INDIA. Next we have to use paper bags or cloth bags as they can be reused. Stop buying the food containers and drink cans that are of plastic it harm your digestion too. Do not waste papers at all. Think about the 3R’s : REUSE, REDUCE and RECYCLE. Only make use of that material which can be reused and recycled. Many intelligent minds are creating energy from the waste resources . New innovative ideas are always welcomed for waste management. Two years back, the dumping ground of Indore was badly maintained but now it is cleaned and daily washed also it has a mini park whose center of attraction is ‘THE CLEANLINESS FAIRY’. It is a sculpture made of old plastic and utensils. There are many such examples ,another one is ROCK GARDEN at Chandigarh. Lets learn something from this and bring our own new ideas to well manage the waste.
I would like to conclude that we all want our country to be healthy and clean and everyone wants to travel in a clean and green place. But this is a big target to achieve. We all need to contribute together to fulfill this aim.At a personal level,we need to care for waste management in every activity of our daily living. This consciousness is required to guarantee the success of ambitious goal set by stakeholders. We are already late, and any further delay will put in jeopardy our very own existence. Let us pause and ponder over the danger looming large. It is our moral duty to save the environment as the nature never betray the hearts that loved her. We all pledge together not to use plastic and manage the waste wisely to make a healthy and green world.
