“Be a part of solution, not part of the pollution”
Plastic is everywhere nowadays. People are using it endlessly just for their comfort. However, no one realizes how it is harming our planet. We need to become aware of the consequences so that we can stop plastic pollution. Kids should be taught from their childhood to avoid using plastic. Similarly, adults must check each other on the same. In addition, the government must take stringent measures to stop plastic pollution before it gets too late.
Plastic pollutes our water. Each year, tonnes of plastic are dumped into the ocean. As plastic does not dissolve, it remains in the water thereby hampering its purity. This means we won’t be left with clean water in the coming years.
Furthermore, plastic pollutes our land as well. When humans dump Plastic waste into landfills, the soil gets damaged. It ruins the fertility of the soil. In addition to this, various disease-carrying insects collect in that area, causing deadly illnesses.
But instead of throwing plastic as a garbage, we can earn wealth from them. Non-biodegradable materials like plastics which can be put to use again in the same or different form – that is, reused, refurbished, or recycled – are known as “Recyclable Waste”. These can be used to create innovative products through organized or unorganized sector at micro or small scale. Recycling waste of useful materials puts them back into circulation for consumers. All these interlinks have positive impact on economy and environment.
There also has been a great initiative towards using plastic for road construction. The idea of using waste plastics in road construction is relatively new. Laboratory tests have shown positive results when a small amount (5-10% by weight) of plastic is incorporated in bituminous mixes (asphalt), resulting in improved pavement stability, strength, and durability. However, international field experience using plastics in actual road construction is quite limited. In this review, we found examples of waste plastics being used in road construction in a few case studies in India, UK, Netherlands, Ghana, Ethiopia and South Africa.
Also, fashion industry is playing an important role in waste management and producing wealth from garbage. The fashion world has embraced the concept of recycled clothing from plastic bottles. Hence, it is common to find recycled plastic garments in stores anywhere in the world. Today, one can find garment manufacturers using PCR (post consumer resin) and coming up with clothing line for men, women and children. Moreover, the plastic spun thread can be blended with other fibres to create variety of clothing for every section of people.
Cement industry has been showing tremendous job towards reuse of single-use plastic. Cement Manufacturers Association president Mahendra Singhi once quoted in an interview, “Polluters such as plastics, fly ash are being used in cement manufacturing as fuel run furnaces. The cement industry can reduce its fuel costs by as much as 20% or more by using single-use plastics as an alternative fuel source.”
RRR is giving the waste management its true meaning. RRR Plastics are used to make bicycle helmets, child safety seats and airbags in automobiles. They’re in the cell phones, televisions, computers and other electronic equipment that makes modern life possible. They’re in the roofs, walls, flooring and insulation that make homes and buildings energy efficient.
In short, we see how plastic pollution is ruining everyone’s life on earth. We must take major steps to prevent it and there is no other prominent method then waste management and earning wealth at the same time. The whole process of wealth from waste is absolutely environmental and feasible.
Therefore, we wish to see more concern and action from authorities to save our environment through this amazing theme.
