Fortunately we human beings covered our earth with plastic, and unfortunately plastic covered us in the form of personal protective equipment during this Corona pandemic. Plastic is just an organic polymer derived from coal, cellulose and natural gas through a process called as polymerization. But why this is of great importance nowadays? Have you ever thought of this?Just look around, definitely you could find atleast one item of plastic origin within one metre circumference of you. Yes, plastic is everywhere now! Absolutely this is a non biodegradable substance! Day by day, we are increasing the burden of our mother Earth. Why can’t we start thinking of ways to save our Planet before being too late for sustainable development?!
All of sudden, if somebody comes and request to stop the usage of plastic nobody is going to care. They will continue using it for their own comfort making our planet in distress.
Whatever plastic we throw away, will get accumulated somewhere on the earth. For example, if it’s in the soil, it could clog and reduce the porosity of soil and the sweeping capacity of water, which in turn affect our agriculture production which accounts for 15.4 percentage of India’s GDP. Think of each person in India throwing away plastic daily, in no time India will become a wasteland. The ultimate fatal consequences will be faced by the present generation who created such issues and our innocent future generation.
Being a responsible human we have to adopt strategies to overcome this issue. There are many proven ways. For example,In biogas production plants require ambient temperature to operate well. It’s proven by scientists that plastic could help to attain the desired temperature. The efficacy of plastic digester was found to outweigh the biogas plant digester and it’s noted that the annual average amount of gas produced with the help of plastic digester was more than that of a normal biogas digester and was profitable too .Similarly, another proven way of using plastic was for road construction. Plastic can be mixed with bitumen for road construction. It seems to increase the durability of roads, as well as we could reduce the additional costs for cement and sand. Even in many developed countries, people are rewarded with money for giving away the used plastic items . So that government could recycle it .Through these strategies, the government as well as its citizens are benefited in terms of money.
When we think at the individual level, there are many ways to transform this used plastic to wealth ,for that each individual has to take initiative. In my area ,the village officials have arranged a big waste bin near the bus stop so that every month one day we will go there to put the plastic waste segregated at home. we should find time to segregate the waste at home, office, colleges, schools, shops and throw it in the bin and twice a month assigned people from village will come and take it to recycle.Similar strategies can be implemented all over India.
Used plastic bottles can be the transformed into beautiful objects with our creativity and we could sell it outside and earn money.
Or esle without throwing it away we can clean it, cut the one end & make it porous, then fill it with sand, finally it can be used to plant flowers without spending money to buy costly pots and even we can use it as flowervase.Even plastic bottles have been used to create objects in art exhibition.
On summing up,used plastic if reused in a wise manner could add up to our economy and reduce additional costs which is clear from aforementioned examples, and if not recycled or wisely reused it will affect our soil, thereby our agriculture inturn dropping the GDP share and our wealth. We will stand united and bring up new innovative ideas to save our home planet.
