Plastic which is called as Poly Vinyl Chloride has become a great threat to our environment .Because of low cost, durability, strong for their weight, easy to manufacture, thermally insulative properties it’s widely used these days. Plastic pollution cause harm to humans, animals , plants through plastic pollutants. Use of plastic can cause cancer, low immunity, birth defects in humans. It takes centuries for plastic to decompose, so the effects of plastic be long lasting in the environment. Every year because of plastic over 1 million marine animals are killed. From small plankton to large whale every aquatic animal is effected by plastic pollution in ocean. In India about 40% of plastic is recycled but globally 9% of plastic waste is recycled according to United Nations. This plastic waste can be converted to wealth in some ways with which the pollution level get redused.
Every household waste must be separated first into dry, wet, plastic wastes from which the plastic waste is collected and used in some effective ways.
Shredded plastic is effective in helping build surdier roads. Collected plastic from household is shredded using plastic shredding machine (PSM). 1 KM stretch of road can use 1tonne plastic or one million plastic carry bags and save INR 10,000 per stretch. The biogas which is produced from wet waste can be used as fuel for PSM. The construction of roads with plastic is cheaper and even stronger.
In cement industries coal is used as fuel but use of plastic in cement manufacturing as fuel to run furnaces be more profitable. The cement industry can reduce its fuel costs by as much as 20% or more by using single-use plastics as an alternative fuel source .
Plastic which is no more suitable for recycling can be shredded and melted until it can be spun into thread then woven into fabric. With some agro waste such as citrus peel extract and plastic, the plastic can be converted to fabric.
By following the above methods managing plastic waste can be a good business. If we don’t effectively manage waste generated in our area it will follow us everywhere in the soil, air, seas that sustain us. Since plastic has proven to be useful in technological development. If researchers can make reusing process like these more efficient then plastic effects on our environment can be reduced.
