In today’s world most of the environmental pollution is caused by the products made by man for their own benefit. But are these products really benefitting us? The answer to this question is a big no. There are many products which are termed as waste once their purpose is served and these wastes then come under the category of non-biodegradable substances which cannot be decomposed by microorganisms and contribute to environmental pollution. These wastes include substances like metals, glass, plastic, biomedical wastes, industry waste etc. Among all these the major problem causing and also the most usable products created by humans is the PLASTIC which adds up to a big rate to pollution.
According to humans, plastic is very useful substance on Earth today and has a variety of applications such as polybags for shopping, PVC pipes, water bottles, buckets and other household appliances. But we are forgetting that with many applications it also possess various other disadvantages which we normally try to neglect but now it has become a major threat to the our as well as future generations.
Plastic – A non-biodegradable substance made up of long carbon chains polymer which accumulates in soil and reduces its fertility leading to death of plants which gives us food to eat ultimately leading to shortage of food among the growing population. It is also responsible for making the air that we breathe impure, it decreases the quality of water which is important for existence of many marine organisms like fishes. Apart from this it is also one of the major causes of global warming, forming holes in ozone layer surrounding the Earth. After knowing all these harmful effects of plastics do you think it is feasible to use plastic products now also? The answer to this question is a bit of complex as plastic is also an important necessity in our life and on the other hand it is also harming our lives. We cannot suddenly just stop using products made of plastics but we can surely reduce the usage of plastic products. By reducing the usage of plastic products we can surely reduce the effect caused by it to some extent like instead of using plastic polythene bags we can use jute bags, we can stop drinking canned juices from straw instead of that we can filter those canned juices in a glass and then drink it, this will reduce the use of straw ultimately leading to a stop in the production of straws. We all can contribute our bit by reusing the plastic products at our home like the use of empty plastic water bottles can be done for planting small saplings, the use of buckets for making compost from the left overs of the kitchen waste, the use of old CDs to make decorative wall hangings etc . Doing this all will not only help us save the environment and our Earth but also make us more creative and imaginative. Doing our bit we can add up to save the earth and by saving the earth we will add this to our wealth for our future generations. Let us all join hand in hand and from our capability and creativity make this earth a better, sustainable and eco-friendly place to live. And this way we can share our successful journeys from waste to wealth with our future generations inspiring them to make earth sustainable and pollution free.
