“Wisdom demands to withdraw from the brink list we repent at leisure. The remedy cannot be worse than the malaise”.
No doubt we are dependent on plastic very much. It becomes the part of the life. We are combating the menace of plastic waste pollution .It has become a global environmental challenge
It is resulting in pollution which will create a havoc in our life. As every plastic that is being produced in the world still exists today. Plastic was invented hundreds of years back and every gram of plastic that is being produced can never be degraded in our lifetime. There is no no natural process to degrade plastic.
waste management is one of the biggest challenges that urban India faces. It is not just india, but the whole world faces the menace of mountain of waste on our planet.every plastic that has ever been produced on this planet still exist on our seas, oceans and lands.there has been no known natural or artificial technique to degrade plastic which means once the plastic is manufactured there is no way to get rid of that plastic in our lifetime.
Scientists and engineers estimate that 1 g of plastic takes more than 450 years to be completely degraded which means the plastic that we use today will still be existence for our generations to come.
Menace of plastic waste is a big threat to the existence of our planet. Scientists and engineers are on the verge of creating breakthrough bacteria and viruses which can decompose plastics but as of now , there is no scientific solution to get rid of plastic from the Earth. The solution to waste management cannot be implemented by the government all officers sitting miles away from our homes.
As the saying goes, charity begins at home, the solution to waste management should be started within our homes. Firstly while disposing of waste, segregation of waste into liquid waste, solid waste, organic waste, inorganic waste and plastic waste should be categorized well.
Research and development to create a form innovative solution for recycling and use of plastic -organic and toxic waste are important to prevent the impact of the mountains of waste that we have already produced and dumped it on nature. This will eventually come back to us and start poisoning our food cycle, which in a worst case scenarios, can cause million of deaths across the world.
we usually live in a world where depletion of resources is beyond control the call for sustainable development both environmentally and economically is spelled out loud and clear. Hence, the current and future generations must ensure that all resources shall be preserved, fully utilized and will managed. Waste generation has been part and parcel of mankind’s pursuit of development be it in social or economic activities.
Now the mandatory step is to make it effective or making it wealth .For this movement against plastic waste would have to prioritise the deduction of single use plastic such as multi layer packaging, bread bags, food wrapping, and protective packaging.
Before the band on Levi comes into force, the availability of alternative need to be assessed, hence the government May provide economic incentives to encourage the uptake of eco-friendly and fit for purpose alternatives that do not cause more harm.
support to projects that recycle a single use items and turn waste into a resource that can be used again.
Government should reduce or abolish taxes on the import of material used to make alternatives
provide insanity to the alternative industry by introducing tax rebates or other condition to support its transition from plastic industry
Expanding the use of biodegradable plastic or even edible plastics made from various materials such as bagasse cornstarch and grain flour
Used revenues collected from taxes or device on single use plastics to maximize the public good thereby supporting environmental projects or boosting local recycling with the funds and creating jobs in the plastic recycling sector with seed funding
And forces the plastic waste management measures effectively by making sure that there is clear allocation of roles and responsibilities
Monitor and adjust the plastic waste management measure if necessary and update the public on progress
Plastic recycling isan alternative method to prevent plastic from entering our environment and thus reducing the menace. Centre for Environment Education (CEE) has developed the Polyloom which is a plastic weaving handloom that helps reuse and recycling of discarded plastic bags.
I would like to conclude by saying that waste management solution should come from an individual level and and not just from a governmental we all are the real stakeholders of nature and it is our responsibility to save nature from being polluted and depleted.
It cannot be done effectively if each and every citizen of the country doesn’t take cognizance of the problem. All that the government and authorities can also create a system, but the onus of separating the waste and reuse and recycling lies on the shoulder of every citizen of the country.
