India being the second largest country for having about 1.3 billion population is also home to the 62 million tones of waste and this is the waste produced by urban population. If we will go by the data in rural population then it is heart ranching to think that people are lacking the basic necessities which is required for the survival of human being. I recently visited my village , I found out that they were not using bathrooms. It’s not that they could not afford to built one, they were lacking the inner willingness and rationale to not pollute the environment.
People usually inculcate this careless and carefree attitude regarding those things which they found they are not responsible to. They would generally blame others for not doing their work properly instead of rectifying their own mistakes. People would often spit anywhere they like or throw plastics and waste materials anywhere they like. I remembered one incident which changed by thought process completely. When I was on my way to home after attending school I saw a gentlemen spitting on road ,I politely went and said that please don’t spit here; He then went furious and then said who are you to tell me you go and do your own business. then I realised that people don’t listen so i decided to be the change which i wanted to see in others . i started practising zero waste management in my home only . i avoided using plastics whenever i visited a grocery store or general store . i would always keep a jute bag with me.
My waste is my responsiblity so I changed myself accordingly and I want humankind to survive for several centuries because if this would be the way then there will be more draconian consequences
